Well. Looks like Ill take this one by the antlers. Immigration is probably the most sensative subject i feel we have talked about. As i worked my way though highschool, I worked at a little well known place called McDonalds. And the one thing i remember about that place and the one thing i miss about that place is the people I worked with. I was 1 of 5 people that worked there that were not of Latin background. And of the 42 people that worked there that were not white i think 4 were legal. Yes, we knew this, but they had a green card and they showed up for work every day on time and worked thier ass off for minimum wage. I have nothing but respect for everyone that i worked with there becasue they knew that simply because someone was white, they would most likely end up getting paid more. But they still came in and worked for a check every week.
I stand by what we talked about in class that most illegal imigrants are hard working people that just want a better life and dont want to hurt anyone or bother anyone in the process. They are willing to take jobs alot of us pridefull americans would turn our nose to day after day. I think that the illegal imigrants we hear about on the news that cause trouble are far and few between and give a bad wrap to everyone that is just here to try and live and be one of us.
Immigration is an issue that needs a solution. I believe that it can not stay the way it is. They need to make some law that it would help the ones that are already in here, maybe teach them English, help them to obtain health insurance, make them like everybody else to pay taxes (which some of them already do so), and vote, they are just people like every single one of us trying to better their lives. Plus instead of spending our money on a stupid fence/wall which will not stop them from coming lets help the ones that are already in here. I was an immigrant myself perhaps I still am, I am not a citizen of this country, I am only a resident. And a lot of my friends are illegal immigrants, they are hard worker, they pay their taxes because since 2001 they stopped giving immigrants people social security number and giving those taxes number. They have a family and even some of their kids were born here. And their biggest worry is that one day they will get caught and they will loose their kids because they are American and they can stay but not the parents, so these kids will go to a Foster Care until they can figure things out outside of US. I believe that is not right, do not make more homeless kids in this country. Give these people a chance, something to better their lives situation. Like or not there is a lot more opportunity in here than it is in others countries, for instance my own, Brazil. The biggest reason why I came here it was because education, in Brazil to even be able to be a college student you have to pass a huge test which is called Vestibular, and that test has pretty much every thing that was taught throughout school, so it is not very easy for anyone that went o public school compared to someone that went to private. So that is why I came so I could finally get my education, which I am still working on it. So why not give these people some opportunity to better their lives with some kind of control.
In my experience, I have found that immigrants of all kinds, not just Mexicans, enrich our society and benefit all involved. They are here to feed their families, not to steal our jobs or to bring crime into our country. I find it ridiculous that people want to make it impossible for people to come here. I mean, if someone is breaking the law by being here illegally, then they deserve to be dealt with accordingly. But it takes so long to gain citizenship now, that they really have no choice. Why not reform the laws to make citizenship more accessible?
It is true that illegal immigrants contribute to the American economy, but they only lower working wages for us American workers. Business owners are always tempted to violate the law by hiring illegal immigrants. They do not hire illegal immigrants because they are better workers than American workers. They only do so because they are cheaper than Americans. If an American should want to break into an industry at the low level(the job most of us dont want to do), he/she is now forced to compete against people who are willing to work illegally for less.
after much thought, i am for reforming immigration laws, because that's the great thing that Americans have going for us, we have the chance to do whatever we want, and competition should be there to benefit our society as a whole.
The example sara made of the cheaper DVD made me think of immigrant workers. If I was an employeer who had to hire an american worker to clean toilets or flip burgers they would ask for top pay, as for an immirant with a green card will take minimum wage, I know who I would choose. This topic hits home for me with both my parents coming to this country illegally, my dad worked his ass off to try to give me and my family a better life than he had, he not even finishing 3rd grade of course he wanted better for us. As soon as he applied for citizenship he was murdered at work. Alot of people do cross that border and do cause problems but what about the ones that just want better for their families?
yet on the other hand immigrants mostly the poorer ones, consume a high amount of government resources such as, health care, welfare, etc.. without paying a corresponding high rate of taxes. but thats because they do come here without a green card and can't get hired without proper documents so thats why i agree that citizenship should be more accessible.
I think the government needs to ease off the border patrol and stop spending billions of dollars to keep Mexicans from coming over that border. they are leaving their homeland to become Americans, America should be proud that people want to come to this WONDERFUL country.
The episode of Bullshit really explained some important issues on immigration that I definately agree with. This subject hits home for me because both of my parents are immigrants who came to this country twenty five years ago for a search of a better life. It's very true that many immigrants come to the U.S. to be hard workers and are dedicated to strive for the American Dream. Some Americans, like the minute men, believe that immigrants come here to commit crimes and negatively affect our economy. I think differently. They honestly do work that many of us would not like to do. The minimum wage they get paid here is decent amount money compared to what they earn in their own countries doing worse jobs.
I think it's ridiculous how much money is being spend on border patrol. That money can be used to help out some of the businesses that are going through hardship right now in our economy. As we saw in the video, the fence they're trying to build will be completely useless. Another important fact to consider the individuals who committed the attacks on 9/11 were individuals with legal visa to come into the U.S. not immigrants who leave their families and try to persue better futures and earn a decent living.
Therefore I agree that citizenship should be more accessible, citizenship should be granted to immigrants who have no criminal record and that have been overall honorable citizens. And most immigrants follow the U.S. laws because they hope one day to be legalized.
Lets be specific, are we talking about immigration or illegal immigration. Immigration is great but not illegally. There’s a reason the borders aren’t just open for whoever wants to mosey on in. People need to be documented for national security. We need to know exactly who is crossing the border, and I’m not being self-righteous and putting the United stated on a pedestal. I believe every nation should have this standard and most do. I also believe there should be a universal language. Sometimes I wonder who is forced to acclimate or assimilate. The immigrant or the society the immigrant encroached upon.
unless their is an actual viable solution to illegal immigration, I see no problem with it. besides if you can accomplish either A. a long an arduous journey followed by the suffering of survival in a bleak urban landscape or B. the legal immigration process which is arguably just as arduous you deserve to live here. But that whole wall thing is just damn funny.
Immigration will always be an issue. I believe that we should make the application for citizenship more efficiently and a lot faster, because as of right now it's so hard and costly just to apply for an green card and visa. Now imagine you being really poor, jobless, and couldn't afford it, sneaking in illegally would seems a lot easier.
I believe that even though there are some bad apples in the mix but most people just want a better life for themselves and their family.
Those vigilantes are a bunch of jackasses because who would honestly be dumb enough to build a wall-less wall? I'm also pretty sure their leader has no wife or girlfriend to be able to patrol the border voluntarily or maybe he doesn't get laid enough and his girl beats him at home!
Immigration is a very tough issue again, why? Because it costs billions of dollars to build fences, walls, or whatever to keep people from jumping borders. And usually they will just get by them anyway, seems pretty easy on the film LOL. However, I feel that the people and government forgets why it is so hard to keep people out. IT is so hard because these people have somethign inside of them to better their families, they have determination to make it here, and really that is hard to keep out. We should however, put harsh rules on illegals, because they are benefiting from our tax dollars. We should also think about revising our system to get into the country, maybe if we made it less expensive, and easier, there would be more people who will do it the legal way and we would have less problems with it. I think there are very many problems and everyoen has a solution. However, in real life it is a very hard problem to tackle.
It's both a serious matter and a joke! All the resources and man power wasted on building less than secure border fence is ridiculous! I can appreciate the fact that the spirit of America being the land of opportunity is a big deal to immigrants and that they're willing to do anything to make a better situation for themselves and their family. However; I do not like the fact that their illegal freeloading is eating away at my nations tax dollars that could be put to better use elsewhere. I'm not sure what would be the best way to handle illegal immigration but I do know that it needs to be stopped; with force if necessary. The method I have is easily a bigger waste of tax dollars and 200% times more dangerous for illegals than could be considered humane or fair, but hey, its not fair that they're leeching our governments funds.
I couldn't agree more with jnickels. I work at a huge uniform rental company where probably 95 percent of the people there are illegal immigrants. I love working with them. They are kind and hard workers. I have worked there for a long time and have seen legal americans come in to work and last maybe a month because they thought that they were to good for the job. These people are part of why america keeps moving. The homes they help build the lawncare that they do the restaurants they work in. These people help our society. There are those who do cause problems, but they are a minority to those who help the country. It is a hard topic but Im for a better immigration system so that these people can live the life that they deserve.
There have always been immigration issues and there always will be. I have mixed feelings about immigration. One side of me says that it isn't right and that they should stay in their own country. But another side of me says that they help out country out so why would we throw them back to their country. A lot of immigrants do all the dirty work that Americans dont want to do. Plan and simply because Americans are lazy and would rather pay people under the counter to do their work. Most immigrants do work hard for their money and I think that they deserve it. Nevertheless they are braking a huge law.
I am with jnickels (the first post) on this one 100%. I feel really bad for the immigrants who are here working and striving for a better life than the one their country has to offer and what do we do but try our hardest to get them out and force them back! and spit on them! What about the whole Statue of Liberty saying: Give me your poor and all that jazz?? Is it just a facade? I worked as a finish carpenter for a couple years and so I dealt with a lot of them. And they are no different than us. They have family, they have aspirations and most of them are trying to do it as honest as they can. As well as most were awesome workers, fast, efficient and good quality! One time I left my MP3 player in a house we had finished and as I was walking out one of the guys (I did not know, never talked to) ran out and gave it to me! Now how many of us dirty Americans can claim that we would be honest like that? If you are scared that they are taking our jobs and opportunities away from us, well then you better just step it up and get off your butt and work for what you want. Quit complaining and prove that you are better than the competition.
I don't really agree with the idea of illegal immigrants getting a free ride. I work with a immigrant at my job who has jumped all the hoops and done everything he needs to be a citizen. He has a good job, a family, and makes a better income then I do, working a similar job. Now I do think what immigrants have to go through is unfair. The amount of work it requires to become legal is ridiculous but it would not be fair to people like my friend to just give these guys a free ride. I don't want them kicked out but I want them to be able to have the opportunity to do the right thing or leave. If you want to live in this country you need to obey the laws and do what you are supposed too. I hope the best for these guys, and hope that they can find a way to be apart of our country legally and have the same success as my friend.
After going through the process of immigration to get my wife a permanent residence card I would blame illegal immigration on the expense and difficulty of the process. Most people who probably come to this country illegally do so to get a better life but in order to immigrate you need to have a good amount of money to file for the process. I don't think the people jumping over fences on the boarder have that kind of money and that is why they are coming here is to make some cash.
For those not immigrating from a poor country or who are married to an American and have an okay amount of money. A wise decision on the governments part would be to forget about a fence. What should be done is to get government workers to aid people with their paperwork. Even if they charged fees up to $200.00 per paper it would be okay with me because I spent over $15,000.00 on a lawyer to help me with my paperwork. I could of bought a brand new car, or had a nice down payment for a house. If the government set up a program like that they would be able to make money off of the system and keep people trying to immigrate from getting screwed over by evil ass lawyers.
Immigration has always been one of the hottest topic with every new administration coming into office. I lived in L.A. California for nearly 10 years and the topic of immigration is alive and well on a daily basis. I lived and worked with many people from Mexico and hear of the terrible experiences they go through all the time. I wonder, there has to be a better way to handle all this, after all, this is America. This deal about a wall, that's just crazy, I mean I'm sure we can find a better place to spend that money. The notion about them being lazy workers and being a burden to the economy is just not true. I always wondered about the many false or untraceble W-2's the IRS files away every year, millions worth of tax returns that keeps going back into the system, I wonder??
Immigrants area fine, just pay your taxes, fees, and all of the other crap that U.S. citizens have to pay for. The idea of a 700 mile long fence that the bush administration suggested is just ridiculous being that the Mexican-American border is much much longer than that. I've worked with a couple of illegals before and to put all of them on the same threshold is kind of naive. I worked with one guy who was one of the hardest workers I have ever worked with, he even got paid less then me. I hated that, he was a better worker then me and he made less just because of the fact that he would work for less because he was an illegal. That is kind of unfair if you ask me. Sure they're illegal but I think pay should be based on how hard the individual employee works.
I agree that we should be stricter on our immigration laws. I know allot of people say that it is hard to get into the US legally but I have to disagree. As long as you don’t have a lengthy criminal history and you have never shown any hostility towards the USA then you get pushed through the process relatively quickly. About a year ago my dad went in and got his citizenship and we talked with the immigration officer and she let me in on the reasons people have such a hard time getting their citizenship or their visas approved. Most of the time it is a criminal history or no source of support in the states.
I thought this was a pretty good topic, on one hand you have illegal immigrants that come to this country to work and build a better life for their families and then you have some that are the complete opposite. For instance if an individual has no criminal record and has been working here in the U.S. for several years, I see no reason not to help them achieve a legal resident status. On the other hand, if they are here with a criminal record and have been causing trouble then they obviously do not deserve this and should be deported. I do believe the U.S. immigration system has its issues but so does everything else. A personal experience I had was when I became a U.S. citizen, I had recently returned from a 18 month deployment to the middle east and was looking into becoming a citizen, when I first got to the Immigration Center, I was treated rudely and it was not until it was brought up that I had just returned from a deployment to Iraq that they changed their treatment towards me, normally the process to become a citizen is very long and only because of my deployment it was sped up to a period of 2 to 3 months. Sure, this was a good deal for me but it is not the same for others. They set a double standard that should not exist, everyone in that place should be treated the same regardless and if they could speed up the process for me, I know they could also do the same for others. There are people that have to wait years to be eligible to become resident and then add more years to become a citizen. The whole process is ridiculous and costly for the average person, I do hope to see it changed sometime in the future. I say do an extensive background check on the individual and if he or she checks out then help them acquire their residency.
This is a sore subject for me... I was the one with the health care comment. I am on both sides. I worked with a man who was an emmigrant. When he first started I was negative towards him and annoyed for no reason. But as time went on I got to know him and work with him a little more we became good friends. Those were the funnest times I had working at any job. We got along great. Although his english was lacking we were still able to communicate and he was eager to learn the language. It came time for him to take his CNA test and he couldn't pass it twice... because it was in f*@%king english! He was fired and is now working construction somewhere.
However there were also other employees that played the "I don't understand english card" quite a lot when they understood perfectly what we were saying. They were the type of workers and did the minimal work for them to keep their job. Also I feel that knowing spanish would be essential to my career as a RN. It is becoming almost mandatory. Which is sad.
The whole emmigration thing is complicated to me... it seems like if they really want to get in the country, they will. No one can make anyone do something they don't want to do. Learn english, get a job, get out... so thats why I am not running for govenor or president. Ill leave the big decisions to them!
I do not agree with illegal immigration. I don't see how this could belifit ou society at all to open the borders. it is hard ehough to find a job. and it is really annoying when the person at the drive through window has no idea what i'm asking for. I say that if they want to be here so badly, do it the right way. I wouldn't be able to go into their country illegally and try to live off everyone else. I think that it is rediculous that we simply stand aside and let our country be taken over.
Well this topic doesn’t really hit home but to be fair no one should be allowed to enter the country without going through the proper channels. But on the other hand the amount of time it takes for a person to get citizenship is ridiculous and the hoops are too many. We need a complete overhaul on the processes but that doesn’t mean that we should lower our standards.
As far as jobs, I've lived in a Mexican household before for about three years and met many illegals, they were all very respectful people. And the ironic thing is a lot of these people (that I met) were employed by Chicanos (naturally born American Mexicans) that own their own businesses.
I am all for legal immigration. Legal immigration brings in people who are able to actually make lives for themselves and not attempt to get a tax-free ride. Illegal immigration is bad, but I don't think that it is the biggest problem with immigration. I think its fine if people want to come to this country to either go to school or work, or just live a better life, but I think they should attempt to actually adjust to life here! I am not talking about pride for your heritage, I am talking about the fucking language. If you are going to live somewhere, legal or otherwise, you need to learn the language. It really bothers me that we are catering to OTHER languages, when the accepted most-common language used to be English. I understand that learning a new language can be difficult, but you should be able to at least communicate. I don't think you could shop in China and have them get a clerk that speaks English just so that you can communicate better. I think that people that don't learn the language are just stubborn, because any mentally competent adult should be able to at least conduct basic communication. When you see Foreign transfer students, you don't watch them stumble around asking for help, they have those hand-held translators and are able to communicate because it is necessary to live here. They may not be EASY to communicate with, but it is possible.
immagration is not that big of a problem. if the US made becoming an american easier than people would not have to risk their lives to have what we take for granted. those people who come here illegally usually only want to work hard and send money back to their families. why should we limit who can and cannot receive the same freedoms that we have? if more immagration were allowed there would be just that many more taxpayers to help pay for the national debt.
I sometimes feel unconfortable about illegal immigration people.I am payint tax like everybody else. and some of money I have to pay for is those illegal immigration people. I love people and belive their personality is important than anything else. But I just do not feel fair about lots of stuff. I want to have a baby for free and want to eat for free/ IF I do not have to pay for school, it is awesome. Everyone have right to go school, but we should not have to pay for people who are not willing pay back and just go back to thier country when they have enough money for thierselves. When I come here, I had to do lots of paper work to live here legally.I decide to come here and live here. So I am willing to learn English and US culture. It is sad see that some store only have spanish speaker. THis is United States. not a Mexico
immigration, you know my wife is an immigrant and the government made it a long tedious process to bring her here legally. it cost us a few thousand dollars and about a year and a couple months of waiting for permission to bring her here and then marry her. i tell you that we were worried that we might some how not make the grade on many occasions and on others we were fed up with the repetitiveness of the information that the asked for over and over again. as this show was mainly about illegal immigration from Mexico i will try to focus on this. i have known and worked with many Mexicans that have come here legally and for the most part they have 2 reasons they are here. one like the show said is to make money and send it home to their families. they can make more money here than they can at home and the money that they send home provides for better futures, but even with all of that they don't want to live here or become Americans. just let me work and send money home. OK cool your legal, so have at it. i think that it is a great thing that they are doing for their families and for many a great sacrifice as well. on the other hand there are the immigrants that come here to make this their new home and they bring family with them. this is even better. they want the American dream and are willing to be full participants in it. kudos to you, my family did it and so can you. the other class of immigrant is the illegal class. while both classes may have problems with English, this second class has many more problems as they know they are illegal and most of the ones that i have met don't care about the legality of their operation, just that they make money to send home. i feel bad that they haven't been able to make things work, but please go about this the legal way. i have a friend at work that knows a person that is here illegally and they are talking to a lawyer to see about getting a visa. nice people. as my wife is an immigrant, we have talked to many other immigrants as well. all of them have grudges against illegal immigration. they range from the lady from Germany that says "hey i came here legally, i worked though the system, why cant they." to another friend i have from Argentina who complains about the lack of English skills that most illegals have. in every case for these friends that i have, it is not a problem with immigration it is a problem with the legality of the issue. i did it why cant you. i learned English why cant you? the fence idea that they talked about in the show was proven quite successfully to be worthless. also the minute men that they talked about is definitely not the best solution to the problem, but it is sadly one that many more are likely join in with as time goes on. i certainly agree that illegal immigration is a problem, not because the people are evil or that they are a menace, but because they are committing a crime. if at some time in the future i am able to once again move to japan, i will once again be doing it the legal way. there is far to much stress and fear with being an illegal immigrant. PS i also believe in speaking the language of the country i live in. which means that i can speak passable Japanese.
From June of 2003 to June of 2005 I served an LDS mission in the great state of New Jersey. For those of you who have never been there, don't be planning any trips, there isn't much to see. Even though I was in the states I was a spanish speaking missionary, which apparently is becoming more common giving the circumstances of immigration. For this purpose I sympathize for the immigrants of this country, not just mexicans and latin america people alike, for all. Our country has always lived by the one standard of being free and we gloat about how much more prosperous our land is than others. Why wouldn't you want to come here? I can't imagine being anywhere else. Most of these people are just here to make money and support their families, they don't want to be here any more than we are acting like we don't want them here.
I am however not a big fan of the changes that are made to certain communities because of the many immigrants that now inhabit it. I feel if you are here, weather or not you are legal, but especially if you are illegal, treat the place with respect. Being that you are an immigrant gives you certain obligations to abide by our rules and for the most part live how we live, that's the least they can do.
Find and kick out the crooks thugs, killers, rapists, terrorists etc. (immigrant or not)(in fact unless your Native American you are here because of immigration) Stop the crooks thugs, killers, rapists, terrorists etc. from getting in by proper screening. Speed up the process, lower the costs and open our doors and hearts to the good. How this is done is the crux of the debate. Is the wall a good idea? Not like the one they were building. Make it solid concrete, 12 feet high with a four foot foundation or don’t waste the time and money at all. Then when they come to the proper entrance point, get the process expedited, get their finger prints, take a picture, get a DNA sample and everything else that could be used as a way to track someone if a crime is committed, then let em in. If they break the law treats them just like the rest of us here or deport them. If there is nothing to hide they will be in within hours not years and make it either cheap or financed. Financing is a way of tracking. What’s wrong with keeping track of someone you know nothing about for a while (a probationary period)? Are you going to let someone live in your home without knowing a thing about them? No, but let’s not pre-judge and over complicate the process. That is the reason for most of the illegal immigration (I think). I have no problem with anyone who wants to come here, but do it right. We have a responsibility to make that process easier, cheaper and more sophisticated.
Wasn't the founders of the United States of the America were immigrated from Europe to America? Did those European immigrants got permission from the Native American? I remember that all they got in reply to their good will is the Indian Removal Act. Does the European American now fear that the same fate is inevitable? What are they afraid of? The United States of America was builded up by immigrants, and now still sustain by the immigrants, don't forget that.
About the illegal immigrants from Mexico, they are just doing the same thing like European immigrants did, find a new opportunity for their life. Why American want to reject them? Isn't they are just as same as American's ancestors? Came to this land without "yes" from true owner of this great land. All those Mexican immigrants came into the United States' west states are not illegal border crossing, but returning. Why is that? Remember the west states such as California, Nevada, Utah, Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas. All those huge lands were once belong to the Mexico until been taken away by the United States.
All above are just my point of view on the history, I have nothing to against but just want to talk about the fairness about an situation which this country is facing. What's the difference about the race? We are all just human. Why we can't be together?
Immigration in itself, most people agree with. It's the issue of coming into the country illegally, bypassing the laws and regulations.
Saying that, I think it's ridiculous how hard and difficult and expensive it is to enter into this country legally and apply for citizenship. Most of the illegal immigrants just want better life for themselves and for their families. Who's to blame them for wanting that?
However, that doesn't make it justified to enter a country illegally and creating such a huge issue within said country. The term that is used is law-abiding illegal immigrants is in itself an oxymoron when the name itself says illegal. I find it absurd when illegal immigrants complain about our government not providing the services for them such as medicare, housing, welfare, etc when they do not contribute by paying taxes as a taxpayer would. Also in order to get jobs, they need identification and although they do this with the intent of just working, they do commit the crime of identity theft. That is wrong and it needs to be stopped.
Another issue I see is the need to speak their language as opposed to them trying to learn English. Although English is not the official language, most everyone speaks it. Schools, hospitals, Government offices, businesses, etc. It should be a requirement of some sort to pass an English language exam.
Do I think that illegals already in this country should be deported? No. Not all of them. Those who are honest hard workers should be offered the chance for citizenship without costing an arm and a leg. However, those that commit crimes should be deported as we should not tolerate this in the United States.
Also, babies born in the United States are automatically citizens, regardless of the parents' residential status. This needs to change. If the parents are illegal, the baby should be as well. Is it fair to say that? Yes I do believe it is fair to say that.
This country needs to reform its immigration laws to make it a lot more easy to apply for entry and citizenship. This will not only lower the illegal immigration but will add to the economy as there would be more taxpayers.
Immigration is a huge problem, that needs to be looked at very seriously. I have no problem with the immigrants who come to this country with a visa/green card. But all of these illegal immigrants have got to go. I understand the only reason they are here are to better there lives. But there is a legal and illegal way to approach the situation. The illegal immigrants have created a huge problem for this country and it is only getting worse. Our tax dollars are being wasted, and our jobs our being taken. For people who say us Americans wont work an immigrants wage, you are right, but what needs to happen is to increase the wage for the workers and have a real American work for it. Yes, the product will cost a little bit more, but it is better than having some illegal immigrant, who is already wasting my tax dollars, do the job for a cheap wage.
Immigration goes both ways for me. I think that we should allowed different nationality in here and make it easier for them. However they shold have to follow the same rules that we have to. It would be a priviliedge to live here and they should have every right but if they are going to go against the laws then they need to face consequences just like every one else. I belive that we should give a shot to people who truely want to make a better live for them self and family, ans long as they follow the rules and laws.
Wow I was expecting everyone to be completely against illegal immigrants. With my family migrating here from Mexico and working as migrant workers I tend to stick up for them a hell of a lot more than I will ever stick up for an american. Americans to me seem like they expect everything to be handed to them and its bullshit. I might have grown up with very well off parents but they made me work my ass off for everything that I have and I'm so greatful for that. Those immigrants are the best people to work with and most of the time they don't even say anything at all. I'm happy they are here cause they are probably the foundation of our society doing jobs us lazy people don't want to do.
Immigration isn't a big deal for me. Growing up I never new what the problem was. If people want to come to America to live a better life and get a job to support their family why not let them? I would understand that it would be a problem if they came here expecting life to be easier and to just have money handed to them. I've worked at several jobs that we kinda had an idea of who was here illegally and they were always the strongest working who really kept the place going and under control. One time one of the guys got fired and the place went down after that. Everything was a disaster without him. I think it's great to have them here in America where we can all work together.
Oh where to start let see the first is yes the US should have a better border rather than just a half way finished fense. I feel it is wrong that mexicans can just cross the border while all the other people have to go through paper works. And even when they make it in the right way they still struggle to get there papers. Now you can't always blame other people for stealing your job. If you look at it there taking the jobs that no body else want to do. So whats wrong with that there trying to make a living just like the rest of us.
I personally don't agree with illegal immigration. Because, unknown to some, my great grandmother came to the US from Mexico and she did it the legal way. She was only 35 years old when she came here and she could speak perfect english with somewhat of an accent-note not a heavy accent. Before she passed away about two years ago, I had asked her back in high school about immigration and how she came here. She told me that she grew up in a poor country and while she raised my grandmother and 4 other children, she said she spent years saving up money and learning english so she could come to the states legally and she did. So people coming across the border in a matter of days and not going through the legal process doesn't make sense to me. I mean, why is it soo hard for them to do it legally when my grandmother could? and as for some posts here stating that it's a good thing and that they are hard workers well I slightly disagree there. I can not tell you how many times i have had to become patient with someone because they could not speak english and yet these people are living tax-free and even going to school free. How fair is that when someone who held a great GPA in high school and did all the right extra-curricular activites be denied a scholarship but an illegal immigrant is able to obtain one. So immigration is great if they're going to do it the legal way but if they aren't willing to work for it, then why should they get it?
i dont know if i want to be for or against immigration. my parents were immigrants like 20 years ago, but are now legal citizens. some people might come to america to commit crimes etc.. but in my opinion i think most people that immigrate to america want to be hard workers and make a living, because i hear my parents talk about it everyday "you dont know how lucky you are that you were born here" my dad is from china and he says his relatives over there work there asses off and dont make much money, he said it takes them one month to make what my dad makes in a day. i think anyone would want to get away from that and work any job in america because they would make 100 times as much. i was born in america so i dont know how hard life would be if i was born in another country... i think they should allow immigrants to come to america on certain conditions, such as good criminal history, etc...
ok i really don't have a problem with illeagal immingration because we are all on the same planet BUT for fucks sake at least learn the language! I used to work construction and it was sooooo anoying to work with someone you couldn't even talk to. now i work at home depot and if someone comes in that doesn't speek english it is so frustrating trying to help them find something. but other than that my thoughts are the more the merryer or however you spell that, just learn to speak at least decent english so you can explain to someone that you are looking for a hammer.
I am both mad about immigration and sad. I am mad that there are illegal people here. I am also sad that they cannot come here legally and the system is a complete mess. I think anyone who comes here from another country should learn english and we shouldn't have to learn there language. Every culture has except for the latin culture. You could say it is becuase they are the second highest nationality in our nation. That doesn't mean we need to turn into mexico.
I know so many good people that have come here illegally needing a better life and I am so happy america can give it to them. We really need to find a way to help them fix their country or give more people that deserve it, visas. I also have heard rumors that the mass amounts of people coming illegally has made crime rates go up. I don't know if that is just a rumor but I think we could also regulate that and my tax money shouldn't pay for them to sit jail for a few nights for them to go out again and mess with our country. If crime was committed by an illegal they should be forced to go home.
The problem isn't with our illegal immigrants, the problem is with our government's policies for attaining citizenship. People claim that illegal immigrants spend up all of our tax money but if it was easier to get citizenship, they would become contributing tax payers themselves and not just receiving tax payers' money. The majority of illegal immigrants are just people looking to better their lives; for them and their descendants. Isn't that what our fore-founding fathers did?
Immigration is a big problem in the United States. 5 years ago I would have said that our country couldn’t survive with out them. But now that we are in a resection I believe people would do what they had to, to take care of there families. They need to pay a bill that makes them all be on registered list and make it easier to get a work visa and enforce the visa when they expire. The time it takes to get a visa is 5 years and once it expires it takes another 3 years before you can apply for another one. There a lot of immigrants that come here legally and stay once there visa has expired because they don’t wasn’t to wait to be able to come back and work. If my family was in Mexico and I can to the U.S. I would have to work for 10 year then I could go back and live the rest of my life without working another day. That is why there are so many Hispanics living and working in our country.
A wall? that seems extreme and expensive. Why not an electric fence? It keeps the cows in. Ya they do the jobs that we dont want but we were fine before that. If you want to come to America do it legally. Dont make your first action in your new and better home be breaking the law you ass! But I guess you think its ok so I'm gonna come steal all your shit and you can watch. Sorry it just makes me mad. Sure sure come to our country well take you but please learn the friggin language for hell sakes. I'm sick of having to tell the operator that I speak english before they help me, I'm sick of not being understood and fastfood joints, and I'm sick of telling my little sister "I'm sorry I dont know how this game/toy works because the only instructions are in Spanish!
Immigration is such a mind boggler, people argue so much about it, it's Insane! I've worked with many people from mexico, venezuela and even chile and I have many that are my friends. So many people look down on immigration but not me when I see how hard working they are it's amazing. They would do anything to help there families and friends to live a better life. It's survival for them they are willing to do things others wouldn't do. There willing to pick up are garbage and fix are landscapes at a fraction of a person making minimum wage. I've seen so many snobby americans working with them and quitting because they feel as if they deserve a better job compared to these immigrants. I understand that yes there are those that come over and create destruction and cause havoc but I see that people want a better life because the economy over there is so bad. We spend millions and billions of dollars trying to keep them out when we could be using that money to help them obtain better jobs and a better economy. I don't know to much about politics and I might not know where things are going to go for immigrants but hopefully in the long run, us Americans can help them live a better life not just here but over there.
So if you don't have a green card then you should get the hell out of here or try to get one!! Illegal's are really hurting our econamy. When they sneak over the border they are coming into our terrritory without permission. Now days when americans are trying to find work people are hiring illegals because they are a lot cheaper. But if we live in america we all should support each other which means we should hire legal people. I thought it was funny when those hispanics built that wall then tore it down in less then 5 min. That tells you how great our fences are down there... My friend is on the border patrol and everyday he has some pretty funny stories. As long as they are catching some of them those are the one's we don't have to worry about. For those illegal ones we definatly need to do something about them!!!
While i agree with Penn and Teller that it would be stupid to build a giant fence along the border because it would do almost nothing to keep immigrants out but would cost us billions of dollars i do think our country definitely has a problem with illegal immigrants. I also hate how Penn and Teller will show the best circumstances of a situation that they can find in order to back up their opinion. For example how they show immigrants who are here legally, working hard and making a living as if that's how every foreign person lives there life in this country. I have no problem with people who are in this country legally and who abide by its rules and laws and make a living for themselves. However many times this is not the case with immigrants. For example in southern california the highest percentage of gangs and gang members are latin gangs, many of which the members of these gangs are in the country illegally. The 18th street gang is one of the biggest in california and many of it's gang members are illegal immigrants, the same goes for one of it's brother gangs ms-13, whose roots are in central america. These gangs are selling drugs and murdering people on a daily basis and they consist largely of illegal immigrants.
I thought that Stephen Colbert had a great idea...he said instead of building a fence, we should build a deck they length of the boarder, and, since old people are racist, we can just put them all along the boarder in their rocking chairs. Then, not only will we solve immigration, but we'll also solve what to do with the elderly. Although the thought of that is hilarious, it is clearly not a solution. My solution, is to stop wasting so much money on the stupid boarder length fence... we're not China. We need to make citizenship more accessible, so that anyone who works here is documented and thus, bringing in more money in taxes. The government can't tax under the table deals. Or, we could simply let California take over Mexico...the Panama canal is a much smaller boarder to patrol.
The United States government has long used immigrants of various stripes to scapegoat and demonize for problems using an out-group vices, in-group virtues model. Our history has seen swaths of immigrants banned for imagined reasons, which caused the beginning of our nationality based quota system, evolving from the ideas of the “yellow peril” or NINA, etc.
Interestingly, the public perception of a growing and sudden problem in illegal immigration along the Mexican border is entirely manufactured. In 1992, a deliberate action was taken at the common border crossings to concentrate the existing numbers of people attempting in a single place, while officials were on hand to videotape the events. ReplyDeleteWell.
ReplyDeleteI stand by what we talked about in class that most illegal imigrants are hard working people that just want a better life and dont want to hurt anyone or bother anyone in the process.
ReplyDeleteI believe that is not right, do not make more homeless kids in this country.
ReplyDeleteIt is true that illegal immigrants contribute to the American economy, but they only lower working wages for us American workers.
ReplyDeleteyet on the other hand immigrants mostly the poorer ones, consume a high amount of government resources such as, health care, welfare, etc.. without paying a corresponding high rate of taxes. but thats because they do come here without a green card and can't get hired without proper documents so thats why i agree that citizenship should be more accessible.
ReplyDeleteI think it's ridiculous how much money is being spend on border patrol.
ReplyDeleteunless their is an actual viable solution to illegal immigration, I see no problem with it. besides if you can accomplish either A. a long an arduous journey followed by the suffering of survival in a bleak urban landscape or B. the legal immigration process which is arguably just as arduous you deserve to live here. But that whole wall thing is just damn funny.
ReplyDeleteImmigration will always be an issue. I believe that we should make the application for citizenship more efficiently and a lot faster, because as of right now it's so hard and costly just to apply for an green card and visa. Now imagine you being really poor, jobless, and couldn't afford it, sneaking in illegally would seems a lot easier.
ReplyDeleteI believe that even though there are some bad apples in the mix but most people just want a better life for themselves and their family.
ReplyDeleteWe should also think about revising our system to get into the country, maybe if we made it less expensive, and easier, there would be more people who will do it the legal way and we would have less problems with it.
ReplyDeleteI couldn't agree more with jnickels.
ReplyDeleteThere have always been immigration issues and there always will be.
ReplyDeleteI am with jnickels (the first post) on this one 100%. I feel really bad for the immigrants who are here working and striving for a better life than the one their country has to offer and what do we do but try our hardest to get them out and force them back! and spit on them! What about the whole Statue of Liberty saying: Give me your poor and all that jazz?? Is it just a facade?
ReplyDeleteI worked as a finish carpenter for a couple years and so I dealt with a lot of them.
ReplyDeleteAfter going through the process of immigration to get my wife a permanent residence card I would blame illegal immigration on the expense and difficulty of the process. Most people who probably come to this country illegally do so to get a better life but in order to immigrate you need to have a good amount of money to file for the process. I don't think the people jumping over fences on the boarder have that kind of money and that is why they are coming here is to make some cash.
ReplyDeleteFor those not immigrating from a poor country or who are married to an American and have an okay amount of money.
ReplyDeleteI always wondered about the many false or untraceble W-2's the IRS files away every year, millions worth of tax returns that keeps going back into the system, I wonder??

ReplyDeleteImmigrants area fine, just pay your taxes, fees, and all of the other crap that U.S. citizens have to pay for.
ReplyDeleteI agree that we should be stricter on our immigration laws.
ReplyDeleteI thought this was a pretty good topic, on one hand you have illegal immigrants that come to this country to work and build a better life for their families and then you have some that are the complete opposite.
ReplyDeleteThis is a sore subject for me...
ReplyDeleteHowever there were also other employees that played the "I don't understand english card" quite a lot when they understood perfectly what we were saying.
ReplyDeleteWell this topic doesn’t really hit home but to be fair no one should be allowed to enter the country without going through the proper channels. But on the other hand the amount of time it takes for a person to get citizenship is ridiculous and the hoops are too many. We need a complete overhaul on the processes but that doesn’t mean that we should lower our standards.
ReplyDeleteAs far as jobs, I've lived in a Mexican household before for about three years and met many illegals, they were all very respectful people.
ReplyDeleteimmagration is not that big of a problem. if the US made becoming an american easier than people would not have to risk their lives to have what we take for granted. those people who come here illegally usually only want to work hard and send money back to their families. why should we limit who can and cannot receive the same freedoms that we have? if more immagration were allowed there would be just that many more taxpayers to help pay for the national debt.
ReplyDeleteI sometimes feel unconfortable about illegal immigration people.I am payint tax like everybody else. and some of money I have to pay for is those illegal immigration people.
ReplyDeleteWhen I come here, I had to do lots of paper work to live here legally.I decide to come here and live here.
ReplyDeleteFrom June of 2003 to June of 2005 I served an LDS mission in the great state of New Jersey.
ReplyDeleteI am however not a big fan of the changes that are made to certain communities because of the many immigrants that now inhabit it.
ReplyDeleteWasn't the founders of the United States of the America were immigrated from Europe to America? Did those European immigrants got permission from the Native American? I remember that all they got in reply to their good will is the Indian Removal Act. Does the European American now fear that the same fate is inevitable? What are they afraid of? The United States of America was builded up by immigrants, and now still sustain by the immigrants, don't forget that.
ReplyDeleteAbout the illegal immigrants from Mexico, they are just doing the same thing like European immigrants did, find a new opportunity for their life.
ReplyDeleteSaying that, I think it's ridiculous how hard and difficult and expensive it is to enter into this country legally and apply for citizenship.
ReplyDeleteImmigration goes both ways for me.
ReplyDeleteWow I was expecting everyone to be completely against illegal immigrants.
ReplyDeleteImmigration isn't a big deal for me.
ReplyDeleteOh where to start let see the first is yes the US should have a better border rather than just a half way finished fense.
ReplyDeleteI personally don't agree with illegal immigration.
ReplyDeletei dont know if i want to be for or against immigration. my parents were immigrants like 20 years ago, but are now legal citizens. some people might come to america to commit crimes etc.. but in my opinion i think most people that immigrate to america want to be hard workers and make a living, because i hear my parents talk about it everyday "you dont know how lucky you are that you were born here" my dad is from china and he says his relatives over there work there asses off and dont make much money, he said it takes them one month to make what my dad makes in a day. i think anyone would want to get away from that and work any job in america because they would make 100 times as much. i was born in america so i dont know how hard life would be if i was born in another country... i think they should allow immigrants to come to america on certain conditions, such as good criminal history, etc...
ReplyDeleteok i really don't have a problem with illeagal immingration because we are all on the same planet BUT for fucks sake at least learn the language!
ReplyDeleteI am both mad about immigration and sad.
ReplyDeleteI know so many good people that have come here illegally needing a better life and I am so happy america can give it to them.
ReplyDeleteImmigration is a big problem in the United States.
ReplyDeleteA wall? that seems extreme and expensive.
ReplyDeleteImmigration is such a mind boggler, people argue so much about it, it's Insane!
ReplyDeleteSo if you don't have a green card then you should get the hell out of here or try to get one!!
ReplyDeleteWhile i agree with Penn and Teller that it would be stupid to build a giant fence along the border because it would do almost nothing to keep immigrants out but would cost us billions of dollars i do think our country definitely has a problem with illegal immigrants.
ReplyDeleteI thought that Stephen Colbert had a great idea...he said instead of building a fence, we should build a deck they length of the boarder, and, since old people are racist, we can just put them all along the boarder in their rocking chairs. Then, not only will we solve immigration, but we'll also solve what to do with the elderly.
ReplyDeleteAlthough the thought of that is hilarious, it is clearly not a solution.
ReplyDeleteInterestingly, the public perception of a growing and sudden problem in illegal immigration along the Mexican border is entirely manufactured. In 1992, a deliberate action was taken at the common border crossings to concentrate the existing numbers of people attempting in a single place, while officials were on hand to videotape the events.
